Extinguishers come in many different sizes and configurations designed for use on specific Classifications of Fires and the specific Fuels they Burn. Most Portables are designed to be safely carried by a single person and designed to be used on a common, yet specific Class of Fire.

Wheeled Extinguishers are still portable, but they are too large and heavy for a single person to safely carry to a fire's location, hence the use of wheels to roll the heavy Equipment to the Fire's location.

Multi-Purpose or ABC Dry Chemical Extinguishers are designed to be used on more than one Fire Class, but even though the Multi Class Dry Chemical Agent this Extinguisher contains can be used to extinguish different Fire Classifications, it is still limited to be used on a small number of specific Fuels. So, the ABC Dry Chemical Extinguisher still may not be the correct Extinguisher your Business needs to meets the specific Compliance Requirements for Your Business and why you should always consult with a Trained Professional.

Business Owners and Key Staff Members should attend a Extinguisher Training Course to learn how to not only properly operate a Portable Extinguisher, but they should also be sure to learn how to activate the other Protective Systems used in their Business such as a Restaurant's Kitchen Exhaust Hood and the Buildings Commercial Sprinkler Suppression System.

Everyone should also recognize and understand the different Types of Extinguishers and know which Agent Classification is appropriate to use on each Fuel Source. Providing proper Training for your Employee Staff is highly recommended and should be a high priority for every Business Owner. Below is a list of the Chemical Agent Classifications and their proper use according to the Class of Fuel they are intended to extinguish:

    Chemical Agent Classifications:

    • Class A - Ordinary Combustibles
    • Class B - Flammable Liquids
    • Class C - Electrical Fires
    • Class D - Combustible Metals
    • Class K - Cooking Oils

All Fire Extinguishers are required to be inspected by a Trained Fire Protection Professional on an Annual, 6 Year and 12 Year basis, as well as every time the extinguisher is discharged, to ensure the equipment is functional and in Compliance with Fire Code Regulations.
